Frequently Asked Questions

Are portrait sessions on-location or in-studio?
We offer both on-location and in-studio sessions, depending on the look and feel of the family portraits you want to create. There are many beautiful outdoor locations around the city of Ottawa, and you can find out more about our home studio here.

What should I expect?
A typical portrait session lasts about 2 hours. We will use a combination of candid and formal portraiture to ensure that you have a variety of poses to select from. We will do our best to make the session fun so that you can relax and be yourself.

What should we wear?
It's really up to you, but if you want our advice get it here.

How many photographs will we get?
That's up to you. Our standard portrait package includes five images which you select from about 75 proofs. For each selected image you will receive a professional 5x7 print, plus a high resolution file with unlimited reprint rights. Of course, you can add additional images to your package, or choose one of our Fine Art or Digital packages (click here for info and pricing).

How much will it cost?
The total cost will depend on the package you choose, but you can get a pretty good idea on our pricing page.

How do I choose my photos?
Within a few weeks of your photo shoot you will receive a username & password to access our on-line proofing site. You will review your proofs on-line and submit your selections electronically directly from the site.

Will all of the photos we choose be re-touched?
Yes. We carefully crop, colour balance and re-touch all of the images that you select.

Will I get digital images and reprint rights?
Yes. You will receive a CD with high resolution files for each of the images you have selected. You get permission from Horton Photography to reprint the photos you have chosen at a professional photo lab.

OK I'm interested...how does the process work and what is the payment schedule?
We will send you a price estimate, tailored to meet your needs. If you decide to book a date, we ask for a 50% deposit in advance. The balance is due when your pictures are delivered to you.
